Meet The Newest Team Members Supporting Our Communications and Giving Efforts

Edgar Carrillo and Adrian Samora have joined the Climate Science Alliance! Edgar leads our giving efforts as the Grants Program Manager, working closely with awardees leading climate solutions. Adrian leads our storytelling and outreach efforts as the Communications Manager, elevating the work of the Alliance and our partners. Get to know Edgar and Adrian on today’s blog!

Adrian

The Climate Science Alliance has named Adrian Samora as its communications manager, where he’ll lead earned media, storytelling, and outreach efforts.  In this role, Adrian will be responsible for advancing the mission of the Climate Science Alliance through creative storytelling and strategic communications that elevate the work of the Alliance and its partners.

Adrian has had a passion for nature since he was a child, exploring forests, running through beaches, and trying to bring animals into the house. That passion led him to his first communications position with the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, CA. He’d later move north to Monterey, CA, where he worked with the communications team at the Monterey Bay Aquarium and became a community leader at the Aquarium and in local Central Coast communities.

Born and raised in Los Angeles County, Adrian now resides in San Diego to continue his work with the Climate Science Alliance. If he’s not at his desk or at an event, you’ll likely find Adrian near the ocean, watching his favorite sports team, or traveling the world.

Edgar

Edgar Carrillo (he/him) is the Grants Program Manager for the Climate Science Alliance, where he works with the people and organizations that are bringing about community-driven, nature-based solutions to climate change every day. Edgar is deeply rooted in this region; he was raised on Kumeyaay land, having been born in Tijuana and moved to San Diego at a young age. He briefly left Southern California for college, concentrating on comparative politics and environmental studies at Princeton University. 

After a few years on the East Coast, Edgar returned to San Diego in 2019. Prior to joining the Climate Science Alliance, Edgar worked with a food access and education organization named FoodCorps, where he supported the organization’s fundraising efforts through philanthropic revenue administration, data management, and research. 

Outside of work, Edgar and his partner are raising a daughter who, as a toddler, already loves cultivating wildflowers alongside her dad, two small dogs, and manages to keep up and enjoy the family hikes despite their shorter legs. Edgar is active in the native plant community, regularly volunteering and attending events with the California Native Plant Society’s San Diego chapter and learning about field botany in the county on weekends. A good way to get Edgar to lose track of time is to start talking to him about any of California’s native sages and where you have observed them.
