Aquarium of the Pacific will host: Reflecting on Practice Coaching Workshop 2/20-2/21

The Aquarium of the Pacific will be hosting a 2-day Reflecting on Practice Coaching workshop, designed specifically for informal education leaders. The goal of this workshop is to provide professional development tools for leaders, in a “train the trainer” model, so they may host their own PD with staff.

What is Reflecting on Practice?

  • Reflecting on Practice is a professional learning program that immerses novice and experienced science educators in informal environments in discussions about, reflections on, and applications of research and theory in learning and teaching science.

  • The design of Reflecting on Practice is informed by research on teaching science in informal environments and effective professional learning. It has been field tested nationwide, and is currently being used in over 20 institutions that include children’s museum, natural history museum, science center, botanical garden & art museum, zoo, aquarium.

What is the Coaching Workshop?

  • Designed for managers and/or coordinators at an informal science education institution who plan to implement Reflecting on Practice for educators at their own institution.

  • It is highly recommended that two-mid-career educators from an institution participate in the workshop.

  • These educators, in turn, take the Reflecting on Practice curriculum materials and implement the program with colleagues at their institutions over a period of 6 to 14 months.

  • Following the workshop, we will provide ongoing assistance to ensure successful implementation of the program.

When will it be offered?

  • The Aquarium of the Pacific will be hosting on February 20th & 21st from 8:30am -5pm both days.
