Climate Kids-Mexico (CKM) Program Manager Martha Aide Escalante Garcia along with Secretaria del Medio Ambiente del Estado de Baja CA, Direccion de Proteccion al Ambiente de Tijuana, and CBTIS 146 hosted a special joint Climate Kids-Mexico event event that took place at Playas de Tijuana Cultural Center on March 16, 2018.
The Water Day Event was designed to promote water education through hands-on science and art workshops with diverse activities including topics such as the importance of water, conservation, water and climate change, water cycle prototypes, games and water recycling.
This amazing event brought together 1,100 students from elementary and middle schools within the Playas area to participate in 30 workshops on Science, Art, Storytelling, Sing Alongs, Exhibitions, Games, and Recreation, Pasarela EcoFashion, Presentations and Theater that were led by the 17 organizations collaborating in this event. This event was made possible thanks to the collaboration of state, municipal and Federal environmental groups, schools and institutions. 240 high school students led all 30 workshops, pasarela and games, demonstrating the importance of water and teaching ways we can conserve it. Ten schools attended the event from Playas, El Mirador, Zona centro and each student participated in the various workshops.
Climate Kids-Mexico focuses on building capacity and provides mentorship opportunities for high school students. The Climate Science Alliance would like to recognize Aide Escalante for her amazing work and leadership with Climate Kids-Mexico and empowering youth in Tijuana!
