I am a cactus that looks like a bunch of flat green paddles. I have big, beautiful flowers in the spring which are popular with native bees. Then, I grow pink fruits about the size of a grape or kiwi that taste a bit like strawberries or watermelon. People and animals like to eat my fruits and pads, but you shouldn’t get too close without the proper tools! You can probably see my big spines, but I also have tiny spines surrounding them that are trickier to remove and very irritating. I love the heat and am able to survive long dry-spells by storing water in my pads. These qualities may make me resilient to climate change.
