I grow in clumps of green stems which are a beautiful deep red color at the base. I can survive droughts, provide nutrients to the soil, and hold soil in place when it rains. That means I can protect the soil from erosion during heavy rainstorms, and my ability to handle drought makes me flexible in a climate changed future. I am a very important plant for basket weaving and am responsible for the beautiful red coloring found on some baskets. I need good fire and moist soils to help me thrive in a climate changed future.
