Welcome to Climate Kids Connects! We are so glad you are here. As you may have heard, the Earth needs our help. Our global climate is changing and this will impact our communities, both human and natural. This is a big problem and it will take all of us thinking creatively to come up with solutions. On today's blog, we will focus on a topic that is both important and delicious - our food system!

For today's edition, we will focus on a topic that is both important and delicious - our food system! When thinking about the impact of climate change on the food system, it is important to understand that the food system is complex and there are many different ways that climate change can impact and interfere. A food system includes all processes and infrastructure involved in feeding a population: growing, harvesting, processing, packaging, transporting, marketing, consumption, and disposal of food and food-related items. Our global climate and the food that we eat everyday are tightly linked.
By participating in the interactive videos and activities below, you can explore our food system and better understand how climate change will impact the food on our plate and how that food is grown and transported around the world. You will also learn about the things you can do to help support a sustainable and healthy food system now and in the future.

With this experiment, learn how changing temperatures and precipitation (water availability) can influence an individual plant and what these results might mean on a larger scale.
Spend time exploring in the garden or with plants inside your fridge or around your house. Using your nature journal and the card provided, reflect on what you notice and wonder.
Recycle the ends of fruit and vegetable food scraps and use them as unique stamps. Grab paint or markers and create cool cards or decorative wrapping paper.
Research locally grown and seasonally available produce and create a cookbook with recipes for each season. Try your hand at making one of your recipes!
