Earlier this month our Climate Kids team traveled to the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco, California to participate in the Global Climate Action Summit.

Hosted by California governor and climate action front runner, Jerry Brown, the Summit is a unique gathering of climate leaders from around the world to celebrate extraordinary achievement with respect to climate action. Marking the mid-point between the historic 2015 Paris Climate Agreements and the 2020 climate reductions tipping point, this event acted as a reinvigoration of global commitments to reduce climate emissions across all sectors.

As a part of the Summit, the California Academy of Sciences hosted a two-day Ocean Sciences field trip for over 1,000 students from local underserved middle and high schools. Climate Kids, in collaboration with the Benioff Ocean Initiative and Salesforce, led students through hands-on explorations in ocean acidification and earth warming. Most importantly, students were challenged to commit to different ways they could help save the earth and our oceans.

Climate Kids Ambassador, Maya Cota, was invited as a participant on an inspiring panel of Ocean Heroes from all over the world. The heroes informed visiting students of the several effective ways they have helped build climate action in their communities. Climate Kids and the Climate Science Alliance is honored to partner in this landmark event to help build and foster a more climate resilient global community.

Programs and materials presented at this event were made possible through the support of San Diego Gas & Electric (Environmental Champions). Thank you!
