Sending a big thank you to the Soboba Band of Luiseño Indians Environmental Department for inviting the Climate Science Alliance to celebrate at Soboba Tribal Earth Day. We had a blast sharing climate resources, having thoughtful conversations and playing educational games with attendees!

Climate Science Alliance had a great time at the Soboba Tribal Earth Day on April 11, 2024! It was a warm and sunny day at the gorgeous Soboba Sports Complex, with great tunes throughout the day and lots of bright conversations with the 685 attendees.

At our booth, we talked with attendees about our community-led climate adaptation initiatives and the variety of ways they can get involved with our work.
There were a couple different activities at our booth too! One opportunity was to write a postcard to a loved one that we will send on April 22nd (Earth Day!). The postcards featured artwork by Audrey Carver that can also be seen in the Plant Relatives of the Southern California Desert coloring books that were handed out at our booth. This coloring book was made in collaboration with the Augustine Band of Cahuilla Indians and contains the Cahuilla names for these desert plants, as well as stories alongside and beautiful drawings. So you can learn and color at the same time!
The other activity we had was our educational game Up, Down, & All Around: the Pathway to Good Fire. The game teaches about the relationship that plants and animals in Southern California have with fire and the ways that we can be good fire stewards. It’s just one of many interactive activities found within the Climate Science & Fire Traveling Trunk that will be available for check out at the Climate Kids Hubs later this year. The game was a hit with kids and adults alike!
Thank you CLIF Bar and Dr. Bronners for sponsoring some amazing giveaways at our table!
