Regenerate Coastal Roots Event

On June 30, 2024, the Climate Science Alliance was pleased to join Coastal Roots Farm and JFEST for REGENERATE an eco-performance fest! The event featured original eco-theater, dance, and music related to the impacts of climate change on the environment and our wellbeing as humans.

The Climate Science Alliance presence at the event supported attendees to learn more about the science of climate change and about how good environmental stewardship is an important part of being resilient to the impacts of climate change.

Before the performances we set up on a beautiful lawn apace near the stage and share information about the work the Climate Science Alliance does as well as a few activities. Attendees could play a matching game to learn about ways that we can help wildlife and they could play the new educational game Up, Down, & All Around: the Pathway to Good Fire, as a way to talk about the relationship that plants and animals in Southern California have with fire and the ways that we can be good fire stewards. At this event we really had all ages playing the game with us!

We also brought in the concept of Climate Hope and asked attendees to add to a community artwork by writing down something that gives them hope. The conversation about climate change often becomes very heavy, so reminding ourselves about the hope that exists is important. People added things like family, collaboration, the ocean and youth as what gives them hope.

After the show we offered attendees a couple ways to process the intellectual and emotional impact of the performances through, coloring, writing letters and improv conversations. It was a lovely evening at such a beautiful location. Thank you to Coastal Roots Farm for inviting us into your space and to the attendees for being open to learning and chatting with us.
