We are excited to share the work of our partners at the International Community Foundation (ICF), a nonprofit organization that seeks to increase health, education, and environmental grantmaking to local organizations abroad, with the goal of strengthening civil society and promoting sustainable communities. For over 30 years, ICF has distributed over $98 million to projects that respond to challenges in the regions that their donors care about. Over the last 15 years, ICF has been involved in the implementation of large-scale conservation projects and is well-poised to continue to support the preservation of high-conservation value coastal sites in the Gulf of California, the Meso-American Reef, and the Eastern Pacific Tropics. ICF takes a holistic approach to helping create resilient communities by supporting a diverse set of initiatives including education, art, culture, environment, conservation, and health.
ICF’s conservation initiatives are far-reaching and, as one of the founding partners in launching the Baja Working Group, the organization hopes to bring together research and community priorities together with philanthropy to advance resilience on a regional scale. “ICF is working at the intersection of climate change, migration, and biodiversity,” explained Marisa Aurora Quiroz, the Vice President of Programs, “We are working to better understand the push and pull factors of climate change and migration and support citizen science and environmental education efforts such as the Border Bioblitz and other efforts of the regions waterkeepers."
