Climate Kids-Tribes Field Trip to Living Coast Discovery Center

On July 27, 2018 the Pauma Band of Luiseño Indians visited the Living Coast Discovery Center in Chula Vista, California for a special Climate Kids-Tribes field trip! Students experienced wetland and marsh habitats first hand in this coastal field trip. Students toured the outdoor bird and raptor exhibit at Discovery Center to learn about local animals that live in San Diego! Staff provided a marsh hike that explored the food chain in coastal environments where students became scientists and tracked species using data sheets. They explored the effect climate change can have on wetland environments like the Sweetwater Refuge.

The Pauma Youth also went behind the scenes for a Green Sea Turtle animal ecnounter. Green Sea Turtles are a culturally relevant species to Luiseño stories. The CSA would like to thank the Pauma Band for their ongoing partnership! View photos of the kids in action below.

This event was partially funded through the Whale Tail Grant. Thank you!
