Children’s illustrator and Climate Science Alliance affiliated artist Skylaar Amann released her debut picture book, Lloyd Finds His Whalesong, through Page Street Kids on June 30th.

Lloyd Finds His Whalesong is the story of a little humpback whale whose voice is too quiet to sing the whalesong. He seems destined for silence until he finds a mysterious ukulele in the kelp forest and must use it and his newfound voice to help his family out of danger.

About Lloyd, The American Library Association’s Booklist said "Many young readers are sure to find a connection to Lloyd, especially those who are struggling to find their own voices. Back matter includes information about whales, how they communicate, and noise pollution, plus a ukulele composition that readers can play on their own."

Skylaar is a member of the Society of Children’s Books Writers & Illustrators and Women Who Draw, as well as picture book mentor for WriteMentor. With a special focus on ocean stories, she specializes in children's and science-themed art for clients including Surfrider, Slate, Sitka Sound Science Center, Kaiser Permanente Northwest, 826 Seattle, Adventure!
