Pauma Tribal Farms Annual 5K and Gathering

The Climate Science Alliance team was excited to support and join the fun at Pauma’s 5k and Community Gathering gathering on May 13th at Pauma Tribal Farms.

A group of people walk through a large blue starting line. They walk on a dirt road in front of fields and mountains.

On May 13th, 2023, the Climate Science Alliance team joined Pauma Farms for their Annual 5k Run and Gathering Event. Hosted by the Pauma Band of Luiseño Indians and Indian Health Council, the event brought together community members from across the region to the beautiful Pauma Tribal Farms for a day of fun and environmentally themed educational activities.

This event was a recipient of the Tribal Working Group Small Grants Program, an ongoing regranting effort that focuses on advancing Indigenous climate resilience, adaptation and environmental health for the collective community. With the funding provided by the Small Grants Program the planning committee was able to provide speaker and facilitator stipends to knowledge holders, purchase event T-Shirts and swag, and compensate the drum group and bird singers for sharing their songs.

Throughout the event, the Alliance had the opportunity to share Climate Kids and Stewardship Pathways resources and activities with community members. After the 5k run/walk, participants won raffle prizes, visited various educational booths, and learned about native plants and their uses. A delicious lunch was provided, cooked with food grown on the farm.

Thank you to the Pauma Band of Luiseño Indians for inviting us to be a part of this incredible community event!

A big thanks to the CLIF Kid team at CLIF Bar! Learn more about how CLIF Kid supports Climate Kids here.
