El día 9 de abril se inauguró el sendero turístico Mat Kiñush - Tierra Bonita en la comunidad Kumiai San José de la Zorra. El sendero ofrece un recorrido interpretativo o guiado por gente de la comunidad en el que muestran patrimonio natural y cultural.

El día 9 de abril se inauguró el sendero turístico Mat Kiñush - Tierra Bonita en la comunidad Kumiai San José de la Zorra. El sendero fue realizado en colaboración con la Secretaría de Turismo Mexicana (SECTUR) y la comunidad que ofrece un recorrido interpretativo o guiado por gente de la comunidad en el que muestran patrimonio natural y cultural. El equipo de Climate Science Alliance está feliz de tener un pequeño papel en el apoyo a este esfuerzo.
El día comenzó con una bendición por la Matriarca Kumiai Rosa María, quien ofreció a los participantes un buen comienzo al día y el evento en su totalidad. La inauguración incluyó palabras del Secretario de Turismo de Baja California, Miguel Aguiñiga Rodríguez, Matriarca Kumiai María de los Ángeles Carrillo Silva, y miembro del Climate Science Alliance, Anna Lucia López-Avedoy. Posteriormente, se reveló el nuevo señalamiento del sendero homologado y se comenzó el día.
El sendero de 1.6 km está compuesto por nueve paradas con información sobre plantas, cultura e historia Kumiai. Guiado por miembros de la comunidad, el sendero representa un nuevo modelo turístico para comunidades originarias en Baja California.
Después de disfrutar del sendero, los participantes pudieron gozar de comida y bebidas tradicionales preparadas por miembros de la comunidad, artesanías, y un hermoso día soleado.

Mat Kiñush – San José de la Zorra Kumeyaay Community Unveils New Tierra Bonita Trail
On April 9, the Mat Kiñush - Tierra Bonita trail was inaugurated at the San José de la Zorra Kumeyaay community. The trail offers an interpretive or guided tour that promotes the community’s natural and cultural heritage.
On April 9, the Mat Kiñush - Tierra Bonita trail (which means Beautiful Land in Kumeyaay language) was inaugurated at the Kumeyaay community of San José de la Zorra. The trail was made in collaboration with the Mexican Secretary of Tourism (SECTUR) and the community and offers an interpretative trail that can be self guided or led by community members that the community’s natural and cultural heritage. The Climate Science Alliance team is happy to have a small role in supporting this effort.
The day began with a blessing by Kumeyaay Matriarch Rosa María, who blessed the participants with a good start to the day and the event as a whole. The inauguration included words from the Secretary of Tourism of Baja California, Miguel Aguiñiga Rodríguez, Kumiai Matriarch María de los Ángeles Carrillo Silva, and member of the Climate Science Alliance, Anna Lucia López-Avedoy. Subsequently, the new signage of the trail was revealed and the day began.
The 1.6 km trail is made up of nine stops with information on Kumeyaay plants, culture, and history. Guided by members of the community, the trail can become a model for how tourism can be incorporated and led by indigenous community partners in Baja California.
After walking the trail, the participants were able to enjoy traditional food and drinks made by community members, purchase arts and crafts from local artisans, and enjoy the beauty of the sunny day.
