Two Alliance Team Members Co-Author Paper on Carbon Sequestration Measurement Methods in Mangroves

Science Program Manager Paula Sternberg and former Science Program Manager Paula Ezcurra are co-authors in a new publication in the Journal of Ecology and Evolution on methodologies for measuring carbon sequestration in mangroves.

The new research article published on December 25th features former Science Program Manager Paula Ezcurra and current Science Program Manager Paula Sternberg Rodríguez as authors. The research paper is the result of the Climate Science Alliance Internship that began in 2021 in an effort to better understand methodologies used to measure carbon content in mangrove forests.

The article featured in the Journal for Ecology and Evolution compares different coring methods used to measure carbon content in mangrove forests, and compares different ways of estimating total carbon in soil. The research will help simplify the way blue carbon is estimated in mangrove forests.
