When enjoying nature, it’s important to avoid disturbing plants, wildlife, and the environment around you. Treat plant relatives with respect, as you would for all living things.
Cuando disfrutes de la naturaleza, es importante que evites molestar a las plantas, la fauna y el entorno que te rodea. Trata a los familiares plantas con respeto, como lo harías con todos los seres vivos.
Native plant relatives are vital members of our ecosystems and have important relationships with the Luiseño people whose ancestral lands span the coastal, valley and mountain areas of southern California. The impacts of climate change threaten the wellbeing of native plants, so it’s important that we continue to learn about these plants in order to understand how best to protect them.
We encourage you to learn more about some of these wonderful plant relatives that are featured in the Luiseño Plant Relatives project and take part by learning their names and helping to take care of them. By participating and learning about Indigenous knowledges, language, and culture, we can all be better stewards and take care of the places we live and love.
Nuestras parientes las plantas nativas son miembros vitales de nuestros ecosistemas y mantienen una relación importante con el pueblo Luiseño, cuyas tierras ancestrales abarcan las zonas costeras, de valles y montañas del sur de California. Los impactos del cambio climático amenazan el bienestar de las plantas nativas, por lo que es fundamental que sigamos aprendiendo sobre ellas para comprender la mejor manera de protegerlas.

Luiseño Plant Relatives, part of the Hear Our Names series, is a collaborative effort between Climate Science Alliance and Rincon Band of Luiseño Indians to integrate Luiseño language into public and digital spaces.

Meet the Plants and Animals of Our Region
A collaborative and on-going effort between the Climate Science Alliance and partners to integrate Indigenous knowledges, participation, and leadership in climate adaptation planning and stewardship. Through community events, public signage, and interactive webpages, we invite all communities to hear the original names of these plants and play them out loud.
